Forgotten Hill: The Wardrobe is a point-and-click escape adventure set in a run-down house where nothing is quite what it seems. You are not fighting anything here. You are searching rooms, picking up objects, working out how locked boxes open and slowly realising that the place is far stranger than it first looks.

A session is slow and thoughtful rather than frantic. Each scene is a still, hand-drawn view with a handful of things to click, and the tension comes from atmosphere, odd little details and the occasional shock rather than from a timer. How to play

The game is mostly mouse-driven. Click to move between views, click objects to inspect or pick them up, and use the items you are carrying on things in the scene. Where the build allows it, WASD can also be used to look around and walk. The game highlights things you can interact with, so if the cursor changes over something, it matters.

The loop is the classic one for this kind of adventure: find an item, notice a lock, code or gap that needs it, and carry the item back. Codes are usually hidden somewhere else in the same room as clues, patterns or numbers on objects, so nothing needs guesswork from outside the game. Turn the sound up too. In horror games like this, you often hear that something has changed before you see it.

Tips

• Click everything twice, including furniture, pictures and the corners of a scene. Items are often tucked into things that look purely decorative.
• When you find a code or symbol, note it down straight away, even if you have no lock for it yet. It usually turns up again a few scenes later.
• If you are stuck, go back through your inventory and try each item on each hotspot in the current scene before leaving. Puzzles rarely need an item you have not yet found.
• Play with headphones in a quiet room. The audio carries a lot of the mood and some of the cues.
