Hearts unblocked: play Hearts online free right here in your browser — no download, no sign-up, works on a school Chromebook.

Hearts brings the traditional four-player trick-taking card game straight to your web browser with clean visuals and responsive controls. Unlike fast-paced escape titles or jump-scare adventures, this classic card challenge rewards patience, memory, and tactical foresight. Whether you want a relaxed mental break between intense horror sessions or a structured strategic match against computer opponents, a complete round delivers focused card play in just a few minutes.

Each match pits you against three virtual players in a race to keep your penalty score as low as possible. Because every Heart collected adds penalty points and the dreaded Queen of Spades carries a heavy thirteen-point penalty, the primary goal is avoiding high-risk tricks while forcing dangerous cards onto your opponents. The balance between cautious defensive discards and bold offensive gambits makes every hand fresh and engaging.

How to play

Click or tap cards in your hand to select and play them. At the beginning of most rounds, you select three cards to pass to an opponent according to standard rotation rules before the opening trick begins. The player holding the Two of Clubs starts the first trick by placing it in the center. Play proceeds clockwise around the virtual table.

You must follow the lead suit whenever possible. If you do not hold any cards of the led suit, you may discard any card in your hand, providing the ideal opportunity to dump high-value Hearts or shed the Queen of Spades. Hearts cannot be led until a Heart has been broken on a previous trick or a player has no other legal suits remaining. When all four cards are played, the highest card of the led suit takes the trick. Once a player reaches the designated point limit, the game ends and the player with the lowest total score wins.

Key strategies

Mastering Hearts requires careful hand management and tracking discards. Keep these core principles in mind during each hand:

  • Pass dangerous high cards: High spades like the Ace and King are risky if you lack lower Spades to protect yourself from winning the Queen of Spades.
  • Void a suit early: Purposely playing out all cards of a short suit allows you to freely discard dangerous penalty cards whenever that suit is led later in the hand.
  • Watch for shooting the moon: If a single player captures all thirteen Hearts and the Queen of Spades in one hand, they achieve a Moon Shot, dealing twenty-six penalty points to every opponent instead.
  • Count Spades and honors: Track when the Ace, King, and Queen of Spades appear so you know when it is safe to lead high cards.
