Forgotten Hill: Surgery is a point-and-click horror puzzle set in the creepy village hospital of the Forgotten Hill series. There is no chase through dark corridors and no jump-scare loop like the ones in Granny Horror. Instead you move slowly from room to room, pick things up, work out what goes together and try to get out before the surgeon gets to you.

A session is quiet and deliberate. You spend most of your time looking closely at a scene, clicking on anything that reacts, and thinking about where an odd object might belong. The tension comes from the setting, the sound and the sense that you are stuck somewhere you should not be, not from a timer. It suits a player who likes the atmosphere of horror games but would rather solve a problem than run from one.

It runs in the browser with nothing to install, and your progress stays in the browser, so you can leave and come back to the same hospital later.

How to play

The game is mostly mouse-driven. You look around, walk with the mouse or WASD, and click the things the game highlights. Objects you collect go into your inventory, and you use them by selecting them and clicking the place where they might work.

A typical stretch goes like this: you enter a room, click over everything that reacts, pick up what you can and notice what you cannot yet use. A locked drawer, a missing part or a blank space is a note to yourself. Later you come back with the right item, or combine two items you are carrying into something new.

Turn the sound up. In this kind of game you often hear that something is wrong before you see it, and audio cues are part of how a room tells you what to do next.

Tips

• Click everything twice. Some objects change after you have used something elsewhere, so a scene that looked finished may not be.
• When you are stuck, think about what you are carrying but have not used, not about new places to search.
• Try combining inventory items with each other before you go looking for a far-off solution.
• Keep a mental list of locked or incomplete things. Most of them are answered by an item from a nearby room.
