Granny Horror Escape Guide: Staying Quiet, Hiding and Getting Out in Five Days
Published · 3 min read
Granny Horror gives you five days to escape a dark wooden house while an old woman with a bloody bat listens for you. Most first runs end the same way: a dropped item, a slammed door, and she is in the doorway before you have found a hiding place. This guide is about avoiding that.
How Granny finds you
The game's own tip screen says it plainly: be quiet, she hears everything. Granny does not need to see you. Every sound you make — a door, a bear trap snapping shut, an object hitting the floor — tells her where to go, and she comes straight to it. That changes how you should move. Walking is fine; it is the things you do with your hands that give you away.
- Dropping items is the big one. You carry one thing at a time, and putting it down on the floor makes a noise. Do it in a corner you can leave quickly, never in the middle of a corridor.
- Doors are loud when they are opened or shut fast. If a room has a door you do not need, leave it as it is.
- Bear traps are set on the floor. When you step in one, hold F to free yourself, then move — the snap has already called her.
Where to hide
You can hide under beds and inside cabinets. The rule that keeps you alive is to choose your hiding place before you start searching a room. When you hear her footsteps you have a few seconds; spending them looking around is how you get caught. Get in, stay still, and wait until the footsteps fade before you come out. If she saw you go in, the hiding place will not save you — so break line of sight first.
Carrying and stashing items
The exit is behind several locks, and the things that open them are spread across the house: keys, tools, a padlock code. Because you can only hold one item, the trick is to stash them. When you find something you cannot use yet, carry it to the area where you think it belongs and put it down quietly. Later you only need a short trip instead of crossing the whole house with Granny on your trail.
A plan for five days
- Day 1 — learn. Do not try to escape. Explore the floor you start on, open drawers and cabinets, and find out where the beds are. Get caught if you must; you will know the house much better.
- Day 2 — map the locks. Find the main exit and count what is on it. Note every locked door and padlock you pass.
- Day 3 — collect. Gather the items and stash them near the locks they open. Hide every time you hear her.
- Day 4 — open the route. Unlock the doors between you and the exit one at a time, hiding between each.
- Day 5 — the run. If you are still short of an item, this is the day to take risks. Otherwise go straight to the exit.
The options screen
Before each run you choose the difficulty and a few switches. On Normal there is a chance of a bonus day, which is the best setting to learn on. Extra locks puts more locks on the way out, Nightmare makes Granny harsher, and Dark mode turns the lights down further. Leave all three off until you have escaped once. Headphones help more than any setting: you hear which side her footsteps come from.
