Tiny Fishing is a small idle-style fishing game where the whole loop fits in a few seconds: cast a line, guide the hook through the fish, reel it in, cash the catch and spend the money on a better rig. It is a long way from the horror and escape games that fill most of this site, and that is the appeal. When a tense session leaves you wanting something calm, this is the sort of game people open in the next tab.

Each cast is short, but the numbers keep climbing. Early on you only reach the shallow water and a handful of cheap fish. A few upgrades later the hook goes deeper, carries more fish at once and the payouts get noticeably bigger. There is no enemy and no fail state, only a steady sense of getting stronger, which makes it easy to pick up for five minutes or leave running while you do something else.

How to play

This game is played with the mouse or a finger, not with the arrow keys and X or Space that the generic control note on older versions of this page suggested. Click or tap to cast the line. While the hook is in the water, move the mouse left and right, or drag your finger, to steer it toward the fish. When it has gone as deep as it can, it comes back up and the fish it caught are sold for coins.

Between casts you spend those coins in the upgrade panel. The upgrades cover how deep the line can go, how many fish the hook can hold and how much each catch is worth, so the order you buy them in decides how fast you progress. Click inside the game window once if the page seems not to respond.

Tips

• Steer toward clusters of fish rather than single ones. A hook that is already holding a few fish gets more from every extra one.
• Do not sink everything into one upgrade. Depth gets you to better fish, but if the hook cannot hold many, the trip is wasted.
• If the game offers a bonus or reward after a run, take it when it appears. It speeds up the early game.
• Short, frequent casts early on are better than waiting. Spend the coins as soon as you can afford the next step.
